The Tenants of Attainable Housing
- Affordability: Housing should be financially accessible, with costs below 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI). This ensures people from various economic backgrounds can afford it.
- Efficiency: Homes should use space and energy efficiently, providing maximum value for their size. They should also make the best use of land, with appropriate density to reduce land and city infrastructure costs (not sprawl).
- Durability: Houses should be built with quality materials and methods to ensure they last long and have low maintenance costs.
- Beauty: Homes should have aesthetic designs that inspires pride and enhances lasting community appeal, providing long-term market value and maximizing homeowner equity.
- Adaptability: Where possible homes should have flexible designs to accommodate life changes and evolving family needs, such as flex spaces, multi-generational features, or phased construction options.
- Community Integration: There should be a variety of housing types in an area, allowing people from different economic backgrounds to live locally. This helps prevent large price increases due to market demand and attracts key workers essential to the town's success. Eliminates economic exclusion.
- Accessibility: Wherever possible- homes should be inclusive and accessible to people of all ages and abilities (i.e. Aging in Place, Barrier-Free).

What "attainable housing" IS NOT.
- It is not subsidized (by government or otherwise) in order to make it affordable, rather it is affordable at market rate.
- It is not low-quality, cheap, or short-sighted housing. It does not cut corners to achieve affordability.
- It is not specific to only one demographic but spans various housing types to address the needs of all local citizens. Inclusionary for all economic demographics.
